You are probably a little confused by the recent speculation that all visitors to the USA will need visas? This is not true.
If you already have a passport which is valid for the duration of your stay then there is no problem.
If you have to renew your passport after 26 October 2004 but before the biometric passports are available then you will need a visa.
Therefore if your passport expires in the 12 months after 26 October 2004 then it would be prudent to renew prior to this date as you will be able to gain 9 months credit on the new passport. i.e. carry over nine months/renew nine months prior to expiry date. If renewed between 26 October 2004 and the new biometric passports being issued then people will be required to apply for visas which costs £67 and lasts for 10 years. Biometric passports will contain digital images of your fingerprints.
NB: All children should now have their own passport.
